Reports, warnings and appeals
Report a pilot with /report; what a warning, a mute, a sign-out, a suspension and a ban do; where you read why and how you appeal.
Two things keep the talk in Voidborn civil. One belongs to the players: the Reading (\\, see Controls), which narrows a voice the pilots around it no longer want to hear and thaws within a week. The other belongs to the Voidborn team: a report you file, read by a person, and a sanction when one is needed. This page is the second.
A sanction is a decision by real people, so it is never said in the voice of a Compact or the Registry. Every line about it is plain, short and signed - Voidborn team. No line names who decided.
Reporting a pilot
Type /report on the line (Enter opens it) and choose what it is about:
| Word | What it reports |
|---|---|
/report cheat |
using cheats or third-party tools |
/report exploit |
exploiting a bug |
/report name |
a name that breaks the rules |
/report harassment |
harassing other players |
/report other |
anything else against the rules |
The report is about the pilot you have locked, or the one you name after the word: /report harassment <pilot>. The answer is Report received. The Voidborn team reads every one; you will not hear back about this one.
The limits:
- Only a pilot in sight. You can report someone your ship can see, not a name you heard of. no pilot called … in sight means they are not around you now.
- Once a week per pilot and reason. A second report of the same pilot for the same thing waits for the next ledger week; following someone through four zones does not make four reports. Your other pilots on the same account count as you.
- Twenty a day, per account, counted by the UTC day.
- If the report could not be taken just now, the line says so and nothing was used up - try again.
A harassment report also counts toward the Reading, the same as a reading would.
Something that needs more than one line - what was said, a time, a place - goes to Support at playvoidborn.com, under Report a pilot.
What a sanction does
| Sanction | What you see | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Warning | A WARNING line pinned in the talk (bottom left), with the reason, until you type /ok; if there are more, it says how many. It is shown once: after you sign in again it is on your account page only |
Nothing else. It is on your account record |
| Mute | Anything you type is refused: muted by the Voidborn team - see playvoidborn.com | You can play. The Band, the Berth, Dispatch, the Relay and your Wing are closed to you until it ends |
| Sign-out | The game closes the session: We signed this pilot out. You can sign in again now - nothing was lost. | Nothing; you can come straight back |
| Suspension | You are signed out, and signing in says This account cannot sign in. | You cannot sign in until the end date |
| Ban | The same sign-in refusal, with no end date | The account cannot sign in again unless an appeal lifts it |
What a sanction never does: your pilots are not deleted, and nothing in your hold or purse is taken. Each of these lines says what was not lost. A mute and a suspension have an end date (a mute can also be open-ended) and end on time by themselves. The Reading’s quiet and the team’s mute are two different things: the Reading leaves your Wing open, the team’s mute does not.
An account can also be locked to protect it, when someone else may have used it. That is not a sanction: change your password, then write to support.
Why, for how long, and appeals
Sign in at playvoidborn.com and open Account: Account status shows every sanction on the account, with its reason, its end date, any note from the team, and whether it is in force, ended or lifted. The launcher’s Account page shows the same notices.
To appeal, press Appeal on the sanction, or open Support and choose Appeal a sanction. Write what we got wrong.
- When: anything in force can be appealed at any time; a warning or a sign-out within 30 days of being given.
- How often: one appeal per sanction. New evidence comes in a new ticket.
- Who decides: someone other than the person who issued it.
- The answer comes to your ticket: the sanction stays as it was, it is shortened (it ends earlier - a ban can become a suspension), or it is lifted and no longer counts against the account.
The protective lock is not appealed; support lifts it.
